2020 Jeep Gladiator
Jeep will revive the pickup truck with the Gladiator, and drivers from the Philadelphia, South Jersey, Center City, and Delaware County areas can plan to buy the truck starting this spring. Find out more on what to expect with the 2020 Jeep Gladiator in our preview below.
Performance and Towing Capacity
The Gladiator comes with a standard engine, the 3.6 Pentastar® V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 6-speed manual transmission, although you can opt for the 8-speed automatic transmission instead. In 2020, you can upgrade to a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel turbocharged V6 with 260 horsepower and an impressive 442 lb-ft of torque. That engine only uses the 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Gladiator will definitely compete with its rivals in towing capacity. When properly equipped, and when using an engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Jeep can tow up to 7,650 pounds. With the 5-foot bed, the maximum payload capacity reaches 1,600 pounds. The Gladiator provides a class 4 hitch, 2-inch receiver, and four-pin and seven-pin connectors to ensure a secure towing experience.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Exterior
The front half of the Gladiator looks very similar to the Jeep Wrangler, and both models share the same doors, fenders, and hoods. However, the Gladiator’s wheelbase is 19.4 inches longer than the Wrangler’s. The new model’s roof comes in hardtop, with three removable panels, and soft top that folds back down. The windshield can also fold down over the hood, and you can remove the doors.
If you like off-road driving, Jeep offers its Command-Trac® and Rock-Trac 4X4 systems, Dana 44 axles, and 33-inch tires. For better off-road driving, you can upgrade to 35-inch tires.
Technology and Safety Features
Jeep will provide a Uconnect® infotainment system with a standard 7-inch touchscreen. An 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, and navigation are also available. The Rubicon trim features an off-road front-facing camera on top of the truck that previews the rough terrain ahead and sends the footage to the touchscreen. You can even listen to music in the back with a wireless Bluetooth® speaker behind the backseat.
The Gladiator will carry most of the same safety features as the Wrangler. These features include:
- Forward Collision Warning
- Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Rearview Camera with Dynamic Guidelines
- Blind Spot Monitoring
Jeep has yet to indicate if any of these features will be standard.
