Jeep Cherokee MPG
For many drivers, miles per gallon, or MPG, is an important factor when shopping for their next automobile. If this sounds like you, then Family Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram has a great suggestion: the Jeep Cherokee. Great for leisurely drives around the block, or longer trips along Roosevelt Boulevard or to the Jersey Shore, this vehicle can get you where you’re going with ease.
For drivers in Philadelphia, Center City, Delaware County, PA, and South Jersey, we’ve outlined the MPG specs in the Cherokee below.
How Many Miles Per Gallon Does the Jeep Cherokee Get?
As stated above, the Jeep Cherokee can get you from Point A to Point B without you needing to constantly monitor your fuel levels. The MPG outputs, however, will differ a bit depending on if you choose an FWD model or a 4x4 model. In FWD models, the Cherokee gets up to an EPA-estimated 23 city/31 highway MPG.
In 4x4 models, the Cherokee sees a max EPA-estimated 21 city/29 highway MPG.
The outputs in the FWD models don’t change much as you climb up the trim ladder. In the Latitude Lux and Limited FWD models, you’ll see an EPA-estimated 20 city/29 highway MPG, but this is because they offer more powerful engines.
The same can be said for the 4x4 trims. Once you get to the Latitude Lux and Limited 4x4 models, you’ll see an EPA-estimated 19 city/27 highway MPG.
Regardless of your Jeep trim, it’ll come with a 15.8-gallon fuel tank.
Engine Performance in the Jeep Cherokee
In order to produce high MPG outputs, your vehicle needs a sturdy engine behind it. The Jeep Cherokee gets not one, not two, but three high-powered engines that are capable of withstanding anything thrown at them. Let’s take a look:
- 2.0L Turbo Engine: Produces 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Allows for up to 31 highway MPG.
- 2.4L Tigershark® Multiair®2 Engine: Generates 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. Also allows for up to 31 highway MPG.
- 3.2L PentaStar® V6 Engine: Generates 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. Allows for 29 highway MPG.
Are There Ways I Can Save Fuel?
Absolutely! There are quite a few things you can do to extend the life of a single tank of fuel in your Jeep Cherokee. We’ve listed a few tips for you below.
- Drive at Safe Speeds: Doing this puts less stress on your engine, so it won’t have to work as hard to get up to a higher speed.
- Limit Idling: Sitting in your car for long periods of time while it’s turned on, especially if the heat or air conditioning is running, wastes fuel. If you can limit idling, you’re saving fuel.
- Keep the Windows Rolled Up on Highways: There’s no one out there who doesn’t love rolling down the windows on a nice day and feeling the breeze hit you as you drive. This is fine for driving on roadways with lower speed limits, but you should avoid it on highways and other roadways with higher speed limits. It creates drag and makes your engine have to work harder. In this scenario, keeping the windows rolled up and having your heat or AC on can actually save you fuel.
- Keep Up with Oil Changes: Your engine works in conjunction with your fuel system, so making sure you’re up to date with your vehicle’s engine oil is critical to maintaining the great MPG you can get in the Jeep Cherokee.
