2020 Cherokee vs 2020 CR-V: Performance
Before you commit to any vehicle, you need to be sure it has the power to get you where you need to go. Both the Jeep Cherokee and Honda CR-V earn spectacular marks in performance. However, when comparing models, there are some differences that should be noted.
Under the hood of the Jeep Cherokee, you'll find the 2.4L Tigershark® MultiAir® engine. This powerful engine gives you an estimated 31 MPG on the highway, allowing you to go over 474 highway miles on one tank of gas. The standard 1.5L 4-cylinder powertrain in the Honda CR-V is comparable.
However, while the 2020 CR-V sports the same engine across all four of its trim levels, the 2020 Cherokee gives you more powertrains to choose from, including the available 2.0L Turbo engine with 295 lb-ft of torque and the 3.2L Pentastar® V6 which is equipped with Stop/Start technology. This helps save fuel and reduce emissions. Unfortunately, the CR-V doesn't offer this type of technology under its hood.
Jeep Cherokee vs Honda CR-V: Off-Road
The Cherokee's extra power is just one of many aspects that make it an incredible off-roader. Earning the coveted Trail Rated® badge, which signifies its impressive off-road abilities, the 2020 Cherokee has enhanced traction, maneuverability, water fording, articulation, and ground clearance, all optimized for off-road performance.
This is thanks to its advanced 4x4 systems, which there are three to choose from, focused on providing you with extra traction in a myriad of different terrains and road conditions. The Cherokee also features the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System. You can choose from four modes: Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud, to traverse over various terrain with enhanced traction and stability.
The CR-V is less focused on off-roading, having been engineered mostly for driving city streets and highway roads. However, it does come available with Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System™, which elevates traction. This feature is meant more for slick or wet streets and not so much for off-roading, though.
Cherokee vs CR-V: Towing Capacity
While both vehicles have a ton of interior room for passengers as well as cargo space, sometimes it's just not enough. Something you want to bring along on your next trip might be too bulky or too heavy to fit in the back. So, that's why it's important for a crossover to have a respectable towing capacity. The Jeep Cherokee and Honda CR-V feature towing capacities higher than most, but the Cherokee takes it to a whole different level.
With a max towing capacity of 4,500 pounds when properly equipped, the Cherokee is on par with many full-size SUVs. Meanwhile, the CR-V can only muster a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. With over double what the CR-V can offer, the Cherokee makes it clear that versatility is of the utmost importance.
Jeep vs Honda: Interiors & Technology
With power and capability at your fingertips, you're bound to be inside your crossover quite a lot. While both the Cherokee and CR-V make both the driver and passengers happy inside, one cabin may leave you wanting a little more.
When you hop into the 2020 Cherokee, you'll see that progressive technology surrounds you. Front and center is your Uconnect® multimedia system which boasts a 7-inch touchscreen that gives you Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and Bluetooth® features, standard in every model. Plus, you have the chance to upgrade to an 8.4-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect® 4C NAV system which includes advanced navigation.
The 2020 CR-V offers less to be excited about standardly, featuring only a 5-inch LCD display and Bluetooth®. If you want a touchscreen (which maxes out at seven inches), Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and navigation, you'll have to look at a higher trim to find them.
2020 Cherokee vs 2020 CR-V: Exterior Features
Finally, you can't have a crossover that doesn't fit your personal style. While both of these models have a rugged yet trendy design, it's all about finding the right features for your needs.
The Jeep Cherokee looks great but is also functional, available with a plethora of features that will keep you safe on the roads:
- LED Headlamps & Taillights
- Fog Lamps
- Eight Different Wheel Options
- Hands-Free Power Liftgate
- Windshield Wiper De-Icer
The Honda CR-V also has some smart features but is less impressive. This model also seems to place a focus more on design rather than mixing function with fashion like the Cherokee crossover:
- LED Headlights
- Dual Chrome Exhaust Finishers
- Power Tailgate
- Two-Speed Intermittent Windshield Wipers
Jeep Cherokee vs Honda CR-V: The Choice is Yours
While both these crossovers prove to be impressive, with rugged performance and capability, more interior technology, and better exterior features, we think you're going to love the 2020 Cherokee.
