The Different Ways to Achieve High MPG

2021 Jeep Compass White

The Compass has an impressive set of specs that will get you to a high MPG performance. With the Tigershark® engine behind it, the Compass can achieve an EPA-estimated 22 city/31 highway MPG. This’ll allow you to remain on the road longer, requiring less frequent refueling.

The Compass also comes in a 4x4 configuration, which offers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22 city/30 highway MPG. However, it does generate 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. It is also paired with a 9-Speed Automatic transmission, in comparison to the FWD configuration only having the 6-speed transmission.

Although slightly lower in MPG, the higher outputs mean it can tackle the road in more adventurous ways. The difference in MPG might not become that big of a difference once you realize which model satisfies your lifestyle needs. MPG depends on what you’re using your vehicle to accomplish with your travel distances.

Factors That Can Affect My MPG

Oil Change Service Center

Along the lifespan of your vehicle, you will encounter situations that will reduce your MPG. While not all can be avoided, some can definitely be prepared for.

A first example is hazardous weather conditions, as they both increase your time on the road and increase stop-and-go driving, both of which reduce MPG.

Another possible culprit for lowered MPG is a need for routine maintenance, like an oil change. If you’re due for maintenance, it’s important to take care of it as soon as possible. Old oil requires your engine to burn more fuel to maintain normal performance. A repaired and healthy Compass is going to get you where you need to go.

One other factor decreasing your MPG is weight. The more stuff you bring with you on a work or recreation trip, the heavier your Compass is going to be. That added weight will slow the vehicle down, which puts extra strain on the engine and requires more gas.
