The power of choice is an important one, and you’ll find it in the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not only do you have a whopping 12 trim levels to choose from, but you’ll have multiple powertrain options as well, starting with the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine that can rev up 295 horsepower. Not enough power? Worry not.
Also available for the Grand Cherokee are the following engines:
- 5.7L HEMI® V8: 360 Horsepower
- 6.4L SRT® V8: 475 Horsepower
- Supercharged 6.2L V8: 707 Horsepower
If you’re looking towards the Honda Pilot for as many options, you, unfortunately, are not going to find them. First of all, there are half as many trims to select from. There is also only one engine across all of these trims, a 3.5L V6. This results in a top horsepower of 280 for the Pilot, far from the available 707 horsepower for the Jeep.

Grand Cherokee vs Pilot: Off-Roading & Capability
Looking for an SUV that allows you to test the limits no matter the weather or terrain? It should be no surprise that the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a brand known for off-roading, gives you the goods you crave.
More choices are found when it comes to 4x4 systems offered. There are four available, so just pick which one will give you the capability you need.
Quadra-Trac I® 4WD: Perfect for all-weather driving, this system gives you command on the road and the peace of mind you need.- Quadra-Trac II® 4WD: Equipped with Hill Descent Control, this system offers the all-wheel capability you need while off-roading by sensing the terrain ahead and automatically adjusting.
- Quadra-Drive® II 4WD: Get all of the traction you need thanks to a limited-slip differential that transfers 100 percent of torque away from slipping wheels.
- Quadra-Trac® Active On-Demand 4WD: No driver interaction is needed for this system, ideal for tackling any weather or rocky terrains.
The Honda Pilot also makes available an AWD system to aid in your more challenging commutes, but there is only one available. Intelligent traction management can be added to this to help you conquer snow, mud, and sand, but when it comes to rocky terrains, the Pilot falls short. It just doesn’t have the Trail Rated® capability that makes Jeep famous.
